This quick guide will enable you to make a well-educated choice.

The Colour
To untrained eyes, the colour of a diamond may not be too visible, especially in the colourless and near-colourless range, as the colour difference in this range is very subtle. However, the price goes up exponentially as the colour of a diamond goes from near colourless to colourless range. The GIA colour grading scale goes from D to Z. A diamond classified as a D is rare, expensive and colourless. Diamonds in the D-F or colourless range have almost no other impurity elements other than carbon atoms. An engagement ring made with a D colour diamond sparkles the brightest compared to other colours. As the scale goes farther towards the Z classification the rarity of the individual stone decreases and so does its price. When purchasing any solitaire diamonds or diamond jewellery online, fully understanding the colour grading system is critical.

The Clarity
Clarity is the second ‘C’ that determines the value of a diamond. The clarity of a diamond is graded based on the flaws or imperfections present inside or on the surface of the diamond. A flawless diamond is the most expensive diamond due to its rarity as majority of natural diamonds contain one or another form of impieties introduced during their grown process underneath the surface of the earth. GIA clarity grading system includes FL (Flawless), IF (Internally Flawless), VVS (Very Very Slightly Included), VS (Very Slightly Included) and I (Included). As we move from FL to I, the visibility of the inclusion becomes more and more obvious to the naked eye when seen from the table of a diamond. VS and SI clarity diamonds yield best value for the money.

Diamond jewellery made from VVS diamonds cost significantly high compared to VS or SI. However, to the untrained eye, both the VVS and VS clarity diamonds look almost indistinguishable. One key factor to consider when buying a diamond with SI or I clarity diamond is to make sure that the diamond does not contain a flaw in the centre of the diamond when seen from the table of the diamond. A reputable online jeweller online jeweller will transparently disclose the clarity of the diamond jewellery you purchase.

The Carat Weight
To many customers, Carat Weight is one of the most important factors as it is directly related to the size of the diamond. An interesting fact to note is that the Carat is actually the measure of the weight of a diamond and not its size. Due to their rarity, heavier or higher carat weight diamonds have higher price tags. A skilled diamond cutter can retain higher carat weight in a polished diamond by manipulating cutting parameters of a rough diamond. Therefore, it is important to consider the cut of a diamond when buying a higher carat weight diamonds. In many cases, if a diamond is not cut properly, a smaller but better cut diamond may shine more brilliantly that a bigger but poorly cut diamond.

The Cut
The Cut of a diamond is the only factor that can be influenced by a diamond cutter and polisher. All the other three C’s of a diamonds are pre-determined by Mother Nature. Cutting a diamond is intricate work and must be done precisely to reveal the maximum beauty of the diamond. A ray of light should bounce perfectly from one facet of the stone to the next to form a beautiful array of sparkling light. If a diamond is not cut properly, the light will enter form the table and will leak out form the pavilion causing the diamond to appear dull or greyish.

Online Diamond Shopping
Beautiful diamond jewellery can be purchased online at an excellent price. You simply need to understand the four C’s before making your selection. There are numerous reputable online jewellers that offer incredible designs. You can simply browse or buy amazing diamond rings, pendants or earrings that may take your breath away. There is no better time than right now to gift yourself or your loved ones a timeless piece of diamond jewellery.

The Unique Beauty of Square-Shaped Diamonds http://blog.viranigems.com/the-unique-beauty-of-square-shaped-diamonds/ http://blog.viranigems.com/the-unique-beauty-of-square-shaped-diamonds/#respond Wed, 29 Mar 2017 13:13:07 +0000 http://blog.viranigems.com/?p=1230 ...]]> There’s a surprising number of square cuts for a diamond, some more popular than others. Since diamonds are found in octahedrons and dodecahedrons, it’s probably easier for lapidists to cut them in square shapes. Another benefit of a square cut diamond is that less of the rough stone is lost when it’s cut and polished than when it’s formed into a round cut. Here are some of the most popular square cuts:

Princess Cut

The princess cut is a square cut with fearlessly sharp corners. The best of them have a fiery sparkle, and they are popular for engagement rings ,wedding rings and diamond rings. A princess cut diamond makes an excellent solitaire on a band of white gold or platinum, but those corners are best protected in a prong setting.

Cushion Cut

The cushion cut diamond has been popular since the 1920s, and technologies have allowed lapidists to make modifications to the pavilion facets. Unlike a lot of cut and polished stones, the pavilion of a cushion cut diamond makes up most of its weight. Because of this, a cushion cut jewel does well on diamond jewellery items such as diamond earrings or diamond pendants.

Asscher Cut

The Asscher cut diamond was developed in 1902 from a simple step cut diamond that resembled the emerald cut. Modifications have added 72 facets, a high crown and perfect symmetry. Looking down through a perfect Asscher cut diamond reveals series of glittering, nested squares.

Radiant Cut

The radiant shape was the first truly square cut to be cut in the brilliant style, which means it has many facets arranged to provide maximum light dispersion and fire.

Point Cut

The point cut isn’t really one of the most popular cuts of the 21st century. It is simply a diamond that is cleaned and polished just enough to become more symmetrical while retaining a natural point. Point cuts were very popular during the Renaissance and can often be seen in the portraits of royal personages.

Table Cut
These are diamonds that have a large table facet. They’re not necessarily square unless they are mirror or spread table cut. Mirror or spread table cut stones are mostly made of their table facet and have a shallow pavilion, or lower part. Rough, twinned stones called macles are often formed into mirror table cut gems.

French Cut

A French cut is a square table cut that appears as a diagonal, four pointed star when a person looks straight down into the crown.

Old Mine Cut
This is a type of cushion cut popular in the 18th and 19th centuries after the old diamond mines in India had been depleted and lapidists learned how to make the brilliant cut. The first mine cut diamonds were simply modifications of table cut stones whose corners had been chipped off.

Buying Square-Shaped Diamonds
The best to buy a certified square shape diamond ordiamond jewellery is to shop online. Most online stores provide in depth education of the 4C’s of the diamonds. Furthermore, online diamond jewellery shopping allows customers to conveniently compare prices without the pressure of commissioned sales representatives.

Find the Very Best Diamond Shape for Her http://blog.viranigems.com/find-the-very-best-diamond-shape-for-her/ http://blog.viranigems.com/find-the-very-best-diamond-shape-for-her/#comments Tue, 28 Mar 2017 06:13:04 +0000 http://blog.viranigems.com/?p=1128 ...]]> Buying a perfect engagement ring doesn’t simply depend on the cut, carat, color and clarity of the stone. The personality of the lady on whose finger it will ultimately appear also plays a key role in determining a suitable diamond shape. Some people may be surprised that the shape of a diamond can actually correspond to the personality of the wearer, but why not? If that weren’t true, there wouldn’t be different cuts in the first place.

So, for those wondering what shape of diamond to get for the lady in their life, whether it be for diamond earrings, a diamond ring or diamond pendants, here are some suggestions:

Round
The round cut diamond is for the lady who is classy and traditional. The round brilliant shape is the most popular cut for a diamond and is found on all sorts of diamond jewelry, especially in engagement ring , from the most humble to the most grand. The round brilliant has become one of the most traditional and sought after cuts of all, even though it was only perfected during World War I.

Some jewelers, including those who sell online diamond jewellery, use shape and cut interchangeably. Others use cut when they mean the way the gem cutter actually shapes the stone. In the case of the round brilliant, a cut that’s too shallow or too deep ruins the diamond’s ability to sparkle.

Princess
The princess cut is a square cut with sharp corners and is just the thing for the lady who’s playful, cheerful and really a girl at heart. As even a diamond can be chipped, it is best to put this gemstone in a prong setting on an engagement ring to protect those corners.

Asscher
Though this is a modern cut, having been developed in 1902, it’s for a woman who possesses an old-fashioned femininity. It’s of step cut that has squares steps with cropped corners.

Oval
This cut is for an imaginative lady who likes to experiment and embraces the latest in all things, whether it’s art, food or fashion. This is the piece of diamond jewellery that makes a short finger look long and elegant when it’s set on a ring

Radiant
This sparkling cut is for a positive and energetic woman who likes to flirt, even if she is engaged. This rectangular-shaped diamond has a brilliant cut, which makes it especially fiery on diamond ring

Pear
Made for a bold yet charming and somewhat idiosyncratic lady, the pear-shaped diamond has been heralded in song. Pears are great for diamond pendants.

Heart
Who else but a tender-hearted romantic would go for a heart-shaped diamond?

Marquise
This cut was said to be inspired by the lips of the mistress of one of those French Bourbon kings. Accordingly, it is for a woman who’s dramatic, outgoing, yet refined.

Cushion
For a lady who is fancy and chic yet delicate, cushion cut diamond jewellery is a perfect fit. It looks like its name. It is a square with round corners and is interesting because much of its carat weight is in the bottom part, or the pavilion.

Buying a Perfect Diamond
The very best and costliest diamonds are flawless, truly colorless and expertly cut and polished no matter their final shape. The size of the carat is up to what the wearer wants and the buyer can afford. If a fancy, or colored diamond is bought, the clarity is not as important as the richness of the color. The trend of buying certified diamond jewellery Online has increased tremendously in the past decade.

Wedding Rings – A Commitment for Life http://blog.viranigems.com/wedding-rings-a-commitment-for-life/ http://blog.viranigems.com/wedding-rings-a-commitment-for-life/#respond Sat, 04 Feb 2017 06:45:40 +0000 http://blog.viranigems.com/?p=800 ...]]> As soon as we think of weddings, a few images come to mind right away – a bride resplendent in a lovely gown, the groom in a made to measure suit, lots of music, dancing and celebrations with friends and family. But among all of these images, the one that stands out the most would undoubtedly be the moment when the couple exchanges their wedding rings with each other.

Be it simple or be it elaborate, the actual wedding ceremony and more specifically, the exchange of the wedding rings forms the centre of most weddings across cultures worldwide.

Interesting Trivia: The wedding band or ring is a circle to signify a relation without a start or an end – an eternal love. Marriage too is believed to be an eternal relation; in India it is believed that marriage ties a couple together for seven lives. The empty part in the centre also has its own meaning – it is the entry way or gate to each other’s hearts.

So how did this simple piece of jewellery become such an important symbol of love and commitment?

The tradition of rings as a piece of jewellery has been around since times immemorial. The earliest rings were most probably made of simple plant stems or tree bark twisted into a ring to wear on a finger. The credit for presenting a ring at a social event perhaps goes to the Egyptians. The first metal rings were of course made by the Egyptians, but it was the Romans who really turned them into symbolic pieces of jewellery items. A band on the ring finger of the left hand meant the wearer is married.

Initially, only women were required to wear a wedding rings or band. Men started wearing wedding bands only in the last century. It was actually a war, World War II, which got men to start wearing wedding rings. Men’s wedding rings came into existence for the soldiers fighting in a far off continent as a reminder of the love they had left behind.

Interesting Trivia: While the Egyptians, the Romans, and the Western civilizations started the tradition of exchanging wedding bands ages ago, the more traditional eastern countries have also accepted this trend in recent decades.

If you are wondering how a wedding rings differs from an engagement ring, there are some subtle differences that you can look for to tell which one is which. An engagement or a proposal ring is typically a precious metal or diamond studded ring with a solitaire in the centre. The wedding band, on the other hand, is a simple precious metal band. Some brides prefer a matching wedding band with their solitaire engagement ring, a “Bridal Set”.

The Engagement Ring – A Symbol of Love and Commitment http://blog.viranigems.com/the-engagement-ring-a-symbol-of-love-and-commitment/ http://blog.viranigems.com/the-engagement-ring-a-symbol-of-love-and-commitment/#respond Thu, 02 Feb 2017 10:11:20 +0000 http://blog.viranigems.com/?p=773 ...]]> A romantic guy, dressed like a gentleman, goes down on one knee in front of a beautiful woman in a long gown. With his right hand, he takes something out of the inside left pocket of his jacket. As his lady skips a heartbeat in wonder and surprise, he opens the small box and offers her a beautiful gold ring with a sparkling solitaire diamond set on top, and asks her, “Will you marry me, my love?”

Who doesn’t dream of this romantic proposal?

Interesting Trivia: The concept of modern “Engagement Ring”, which has become an expression of love and commitment of marriage worldwide, was born in Europe in the 15th century.

Let’s look at some interesting historical facts about the engagement ring. While rings have been in existence and use for thousands of years (they have been discovered in Egyptian as well as Sumerian tombs), the ancient civilizations never used the rings as expressions or symbols of love. They were mainly used as adornments to be worn to show off status, stature and taste.

So when exactly did the concept of an engagement ring, that sets it apart from any other ring, come into existence? If we trace the roots of the engagement ring back to the third century BC, we can see that Egyptians were known to exchange rings made of gold or silver. They wore them on the ring finger of the left hand which represented marriage and symbolized love as they believed that the vein of that particular finger connected directly with the heart.

The first certified and recorded mention of a man betrothing a woman for marriage goes back to 1477 when Archduke Maximilian of Austria presented a special engagement ring crafted with diamonds to Mary of Burgundy.

The custom of presenting a Daimond engagement ring a highly artistic multi-diamond rings with a solitaire in the centre that caught the fancy of lovers. s an expression of love and commitment became popular from then on, though not all men presented diamond rings to their ladies back in the day in Brazil and later on in South Africa, that Daimond engagement ring became popular. From simple flat rings at the. It was only after abundant supplies of diamonds were found, first outset, design artists soon created

After 1950s, the concept of diamond engagement ring became even more popular worldwide after De Beer’s launched their famous “A Diamond is Forever” marketing campaign.

Hard Fact: Rings are a part of both the engagement and the Wedding. However, the rings in both these symbolic celebrations of love differ. While a Wedding band is usually a plain metal band (gold, silver or platinum), an engagement ring is a more elaborate affair with either a solitaire or a bigger diamond in the centre with smaller stones set around it.

The Virani Love Story http://blog.viranigems.com/the-virani-love-story/ http://blog.viranigems.com/the-virani-love-story/#respond Tue, 24 Jan 2017 12:30:42 +0000 http://blog.viranigems.com/?p=620 ...]]>

Like all good stories, Virani also started when a boy met a girl.

Both of our co-founders, Chirag Virani and Hetal Virani met each other at the age of five when they were in kindergarten. And since then they were in the same school, same class, and even sat on the same row for years. VIRANI was incepted when Chirag proposed to Hetal in front of the beautiful Taj Mahal in 2014.

The Virani Love Story

When Chirag was planning the proposal, he wanted to get the best engagement ring for Hetal. And the process he went through to get that special engagement ring essentially led to the birth of Virani. Being in the diamond business for over 50 years for three generations and having access to a diamond cutting and polishing factory that cuts and polishes over 200,000 diamonds a month, finding the best diamond wasn’t a challenge. But when it came to picking the ring design, Chirag met one of his jeweller friends and learnt the entire step by step process of how to create an engagement ring from scratch starting from 3D CAD design and 360 degree videos, to a 3D printed model and finally the finished ring. And when he got the finished ring, it was exactly how he had imagined and Hetal said yes.

The Virani Love Story

Chirag personally found the entire process fascinating. After they got married in 2015, they came up with an idea of making the whole jewellery buying experience fun, transparent and convenient for EVERYONE whether or not they had access to a diamond cutting factory or a trusted family jeweller they had known for years.

Hetal and Chirag spent almost a year researching in order to identify the gaps in the industry and studied how people were browsing jewellery, how they were buying jewellery though both online or offline channels before launching Viranigems.com in 2016.

At Viranigems.com, it’s our mission to promote transparency throughout the jewellery purchasing process. Your precious diamond jewellery not only comes with a certificate of authenticity from leading gemological institutes, but it is also accompanied by a detailed price breakdown of how much you pay for your conflict-free diamonds, metal as well as the making of your jewellery. Our loyal customers enjoy luxurious shopping experience at Viranigems.com with unique features such as trying on an exact physical 3D printed plastic replica  before buying an actual piece of jewellery,  complete customization  capabilities,  free shipping,  30 day money back guarantee,  lifetime exchange offers and many more.
